There are only two UK species in the thymelaeaceae family, both in the daphne genus; mezereon and spurge laurel. Plants are shrubs bearing simple, alternate, stipule-less leaves, and flowers formed of a tubular, four-lobed calyx (no petals) containing eight stamens and an ovary.
