Grossulariaceae

The grossulariaceae family contains just one genus, ribes, the currants or gooseberries, numbering around 200 worldwide and six in the UK, of which five are probably native, though all occur mostly as garden escapes. Plants are shrubs, characterised by alternate, palmate leaves and a clustered inflorescence. Flowers have a tubular, five lobed calyx, and a five-lobed corolla. Fruits are berries, often edible.
