Sometimes considered part of the apiaceae (due to similarities in flower structure), plants in the araliaceae or ginseng family have relatively large leaves and clusters of small, five-petalled flowers. There are over 700 species worldwide but just two in the UK, in the hydrocotyle genus, one of which (hydrocotyle ranunculoides) is introduced, and invasive.
