Plants in the amaryllidaceae, or amaryllis family have narrow, usually linear leaves, and leafless stalks topped by single or clustered flowers; these have three petals and three sepals, often identical in appearance. UK species include daffodils and snowdrops, but most abundant are the onions (allium genus), with around 14 members.
