Stamens have thick, whitish filaments and purple anthers, while carpels are greenish-yellow, tightly packed
Leaves:
Of three types - long, linear submerged leaves, ovate floating leaves and arrow-shaped emergent leaves, these up to 20 cm long, attached by thick, grooved stalks, and crossed by prominent veins
